- ➤ Local third-graders visited a farm today to learn safety with help from FFA chapters and local organizations—focusing on grain bin safety and first aid—and gaining hands-on experience with farm animals. The program has run for over 20 years and will offer additional sessions in the future to teach youth about farm risks. KEYC
- ➤ Hundreds gathered on Thursday at Bethel Baptist Church in Mankato to honor Charlie Kirk, the Turning Point USA founder who was murdered last week — TPUSA Mankato president Isabel Sautter said the turnout showed strong local support. - ➤ High school football fans at the Jug Game today between Mankato East and West raised 1,760 pounds of food for ECHO Food Shelf by counting each donated dollar as one pound. - ➤ At Norseland Scout Camp outside St. Peter, Tom Henderson and Duane Rader will be honored with landmark namings on Sept. 27 as Twin Valley Council launches an endowment campaign to support future Scouting projects—celebrating their 80 combined years and long dedication to Boy Scouting. - ➤ Data from the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development shows jobs in Mankato grew 4.2% in August compared to August 2024, raising total employment to 58,749 from a 3% increase in private sector jobs and a 10.7% jump in government jobs— the largest growth in Minnesota metropolitan areas aside from Rochester. - ➤ Mayo Clinic announced last week that its St. Peter clinic will close by Dec. 10—this decision is part of a shift in rural care caused by rising costs and staffing shortages. Local patients will have to turn to other providers like River’s Edge Hospital and Daniels Health Center for their primary care needs. Mankato Free Press
