ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A 12-year-old North Mankato girl died from injuries when a house fire broke out at 5:30 a.m. Friday at her home at 524 Lyndale Ave—fire officials say the blaze appears accidental and responders evacuated four residents while her mother recovered from smoke inhalation. Mankato Free Press
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Rep. Finstad is demanding the immediate resignation of an MSU Mankato professor who made inflammatory social media remarks after Charlie Kirk's death—he sent a letter to President Edward Inch following previous controversies with the professor. KEYC
- ➤ Work nears completion on Highway 60 in Lake Crystal after crews began a complete reconstruction in April. MnDOT expects to reopen the road mid-October—drivers and local businesses have endured long detours and delays. KEYC
- ➤ Residents along Highway 169 in Mankato and North Mankato are being asked to vote on installing noise walls as part of a $70 million highway makeover project; city officials already rejected a proposed wall in Mankato after local business feedback—residents in North Mankato still will decide on two potential walls near homes and an apartment building. The ballots will determine whether the noise walls, designed to meet federal standards for future trails and noise reduction, are included in the project. Mankato Free Press
- ➤ Mankato — Congressman Brad Finstad renewed his call for MSU political science professor Kevin Parsneau’s resignation after he made controversial social media posts criticizing Turning Point founder Charlie Kirk and the Vikings for not honoring Kirk before Sunday’s game. Parsneau said his remarks, made in a cranky mood to spark debate on free speech, were not intended to undermine the academic environment, while Finstad’s letter to MSU President Edward Inch linked them to unacceptable conduct on campus.
