COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Community members in Mankato began voting in the final round of the city photo contest — from 20 photos chosen earlier, each voter must pick a first-place winner for the calendar cover, a second-place photo for recognition, and 10 additional photos for the 2026 calendar; the first-place photographer will receive a civic center gift card and a framed copy of their photo while voting remains open through Monday.  Mankato Free Press
  • The weekly farmers market in Mankato shifted locations as construction on Adams Street made access difficult—vendors now offer fall produce such as apples, pears, pumpkins and winter squash near the roundabout by Best Buy.  KEYC

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Blue Earth County officials stated that an 8.5% levy increase will raise the county tax to $51.9 million — meaning a typical home will see a $154 bump while some residential properties may face a 14-15% rise. The board will cut costs by reducing the workforce, using $6 million from a reserve fund, and starting a new voluntary furlough program — and it will certify the final numbers on Dec. 2.  Mankato Free Press

SPORTS NEWS

  • On September 23, 2025, the Mankato East girls soccer team shut out Albert Lea 8-0 as Laina Peterson scored a hat trick and added two assists—fueling a commanding win.  KEYC
  • Mankato West Scarlets won 2–0 over the Owatonna Huskies when Jakobe Tosch scored a late goal from a pass by Oliver Demars—after Owatonna’s Carson Van Gelder made multiple saves during a tight goaltender duel.  KEYC
  • On Tuesday, the Mankato Minnesota State volleyball team lost 3-1 to No. 15 St-Cloud State, dropping their season record to 10-1. This match marked the program’s first defeat of the season.  KEYC
