- ➤ The YWCA Mankato moved into a new 3,000-square-foot space at Christ the King Lutheran Church and will host an open house Monday from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. to showcase expanded programming ahead of its 100th anniversary next year—its executive director said. Mankato Free Press
- ➤ Deisy De Leon Esqueda, manager of ECHO Food Shelf and co-owner of a local food truck, was injured in a head-on crash on Thursday while driving from Lake Crystal — she suffered fractures to her chest and legs and was flown to a hospital. A fundraiser was started to help with her bills and lost income, and more than $4,000 of the $25,000 goal had been raised by Friday. Mankato Free Press
- ➤ Today, local events include the Indigenous Music Exchange at Tremendous Brewing Co. in St. Peter from noon to 3 p.m., the Mankato Farmers’ Market from 8 a.m. to noon at 1895 Adams St., and MSU Homecoming with a parade at 10:30 a.m., a football game at 2 p.m., and a carnival at 3:30 p.m. on campus — Sunday hosts the Kato Bike Fall Fest ride from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Mount Kato and a memorial service at Ray Erlandson Park at 1 p.m. Mankato Free Press

- ➤ The Minnesota Welsh Association will hold its 90th annual Welsh Fest at the First Presbyterian Church in Mankato this Sunday at 1:30 p.m.—the event will celebrate 90 years of Welsh hymn singing and invite locals to learn about Welsh heritage. KEYC
- ➤ A traveling theater troupe visited the forensic mental health program at St. Peter Regional Treatment Center and performed a version of Shakespeare’s Two Gentlemen of Verona — called Two Gents — to show that art belongs to everyone. The group brings live plays to places that usually do not have access to theater, a mission they started during a previous visit in 2019. KEYC

- ➤ North Mankato is weighing a $5 million renovation of the Spring Lake Park swim facility after a Sept. 15 presentation revealed major damage and safety issues, and officials say the upgrade option would close the facility for the entire 2026 season while plans are finalized—council discussions will determine next steps. Detailed design plans and cost estimates are expected soon. Mankato Free Press
- ➤ Saint Peter city officials approved a proposed 6.9% property tax increase for the coming fiscal year to pay for a new city hall, road repairs, and a new police officer. The council said the rate may change and Mayor Nowell promised clear updates for residents—ensuring local oversight remains the goal. KEYC

- ➤ MAC Midwest in Mankato hosted a fundraising event Friday from 4:30-7 p.m. to raise $100,000 needed to hire staff and purchase sensory tools for children with autism—supporting its continued care efforts led by Director Molly Dietz. KEYC

- ➤ The Minnesota State women’s hockey team, after a 2—0 win at RPI, will begin a series against Lindenwood on Oct. 3rd and host the team next weekend. The football team is 3—1 and will host Sioux Falls this weekend as both teams seek a win. KEYC
