COMMUNITY NEWS

  • KMSU will begin its 10-day pledge drive on Wednesday and end it on October 31 with a polka segment on the Shuffle Function show from 6 to 9 a.m.—the station aims to raise $33,333 to secure its funding and future growth.  Mankato Free Press

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Minnesota Paving and Materials announced it will lay off 297 workers as it closes 14 southern Minnesota locations (Mankato, New Ulm, Kasota, Owatonna and Comfrey) with operations ending on December 19. The company, evolved from four local firms into a major asphalt provider since 1861, confirmed the closures through DEED (the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development).  KEYC

EDUCATION NEWS

  • At Mankato West High School, crews are building a steel frame for a new office and classroom space and will soon add exterior wall blocks—workers are also installing underground plumbing, electrical, and gym foundations using funds from a $105 million bond referendum passed in 2023.  KEYC
