- ➤ On Tuesday, Mankato will host its first statewide Veterans Day event at the National Guard Armory. Local veterans will hold other ceremonies at the WWI Memorial at Sibley Park, American Legion posts, and the St. Peter Area Veterans Memorial—where Bells of Peace will ring 21 times to honor the 1918 armistice. - ➤ On Friday, families and children from the St. Peter Community Center hurried to the new accessible playground at Gorman Park during a ribbon-cutting ceremony that marked the start of Phase 1 of the park improvements — replacing the TREEmendous Playground built after the 1998 tornado. Additional upgrades, including a splash pad at the former TREEmendous site, are planned for next year. Mankato Free Press

- ➤ Hy-Vee announced Friday it will continue offering free meals for children 12 and under and $3 meals for others at all stores with hot food service until November 14 because of government shutdown funding issues for SNAP benefits. - ➤ Marti Woodward Ryan hosted a three-hour celebration on Sunday at Ecumen Pathstone to honor violin teacher Marilyn Bos on her 90th birthday, where former students and friends recalled her lasting impact on their music careers. - ➤ Sip City Social, planned for Jan. 31 at the downtown event center, will offer craft beers, special wines, unique mocktails, and snacks—with live music by Nate Boots—and organizers Radio Mankato and the civic center say the revamped tasting expo aims to boost local vendor participation. - ➤ MSU volleyball swept Bemidji State 3-0 Friday for their third straight win. The Mavericks will face Minnesota Duluth today. KEYC
- ➤ The Mankato East girls swim and dive team won the Section 1A title on November 7 — their first program win — by edging Northfield 371-366 while Mankato West finished sixth. The state meet will take place next week at the University of Minnesota — promising more local competition. KEYC
- ➤ The Minnesota State men’s hockey team tied with Bowling Green at 4 to 4 in overtime and won the shootout round to conclude the series— they will face Bowling Green again today. KEYC
- ➤ The Maverick Insider featured discussions with football coach Todd Hoffner and QB Mitchell Thompson as the team prepares for today's game against Augustana.
