  • The YMCA held a 5K race at Sibley Park on Saturday as part of its Stride for All program that gave runners a sneak peek at this year’s Kiwanis lights – one of the prizes offered. The event had 161 participants, including young Dawson Allen and his dad Tom, and wrapped up after two laps around the lights before finishing at the start point.  Mankato Free Press

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Dead ash trees from the emerald ash borer have created safety concerns on both private and public lands, prompting local officials to monitor and act when a tree threatens a neighbor’s property—North Mankato will send a 90-day removal notice to owners when needed. Nearby cities like St. Peter and Eagle Lake have similar programs to remove hazardous trees, and the region is set to continue taking strict action as risks grow.  Mankato Free Press
