  • On Friday, Menards in Mankato opened at 4:30 a.m. with fewer early birds as manager Bruce Mezera and his crew prepared for Black Friday — lines still formed despite later arrivals. EDUCATION NEWS

  • Jan Gostonczik began her 56-year career at Minnesota State University after graduating from Mankato Commercial College and will retire Dec. 31 after 53 years as an administrative assistant in the special education program—she witnessed significant changes across campus during her tenure.  Mankato Free Press

HEALTH NEWS

  • Maddux, a nine-year-old cancer survivor who lost a kidney and is now a healthy third-grader at Jefferson Elementary, has been named the ambassador for the Mustache Bash—an event hosted by the Jonathan Zierdt Cancer Fund. The bash will take place on November 30 from 7:00—11:00 a.m. at the WowZone to raise awareness and honor advances in cancer care.  Mankato Free Press
