- ➤ The Greater Mankato Diversity Council celebrated its 20th anniversary last month at Minnesota State University by honoring a legacy of building cultural understanding through local workshops and training programs. The group will expand efforts to support inclusiveness in schools and businesses. Mankato Free Press
- ➤ The cold winter is slowing donations at the Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Drive as fewer volunteers are present. Captain Andy Wheeler said extra bell ringers are needed to boost collections + support the Bundle Me Warm program that provides winter coats to local residents in need. KEYC
- ➤ The new Reconciliation Ride began Wednesday from Fort Thompson and will cover 330 miles through memorial and sacred sites to arrive in Mankato the day after Christmas. Community volunteers in New Ulm are hosting riders and seeking extra helpers + interested parties can call organizer Colleen Hokenson. KEYC
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Mankato residents can attend the final Live at the Carnegie show of 2025 Saturday at 7 p.m. at Carnegie Center, where Anna Johnson (fresh from a France tour) and Natalie Nowytski will each perform a solo set before uniting for a duo performance and artist talk by curator Liz Draper. Mankato Free Press
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Mankato West High students launched a holiday light recycling drive that runs until Jan. 5, with drop-off bins at West’s main office, the Children's Museum & Center for Learning. Materials will be recycled through Youth Eco Solutions to help meet a statewide goal of collecting 750 pounds. Mankato Free Press

- ➤ Mankato East boys swim and dive team hosted Mankato West on Thursday in a meet where the Scarlets won 93+76, and later Minnesota State basketball teams secured wins against Wayne State. KEYC
