CULTURE NEWS

  • Local musician Ben Scruggs released his sixth album, Heart River, which blends Midwestern tunes with lyrics inspired by local life. He also unveiled a music video of his band performing before a white backdrop with fishing poles and a cooler—offering a new look at the region’s sound.  Mankato Free Press
  • Local galleries and museums are showcasing exhibits through December, including a room-size Menzel Christmas village in New Ulm and a vintage toy display at Blue Earth County Historical Society. They will close for winter while planning 2026 shows in venues from Carnegie Art Center to campus galleries (more details to come).  Mankato Free Press

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Saint Peter High School held presentations on Friday (Dec. 12) on service animals and the Special Olympics to help students learn about diverse abilities. The sessions offered fresh local insights on inclusion and understanding.  KEYC

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • State officials postponed new wages for nursing home workers because the needed paperwork was not filed. A law set to pay a $19 minimum wage for positions like housekeepers (and chefs) starting Jan. 1 is now delayed pending federal review and may take months to resolve.  Mankato Free Press
