North Mankato's council is ready to propose a 2.75% property tax rate increase for 2027

If you own a home in North Mankato, here's your 2027 number. The council is prepared to propose a 2.75% rate increase. The 2027 levy would be $11,521,700, up $1,294,700, or 12.66%, from 2026. Finance Director Jessica Ryan wrote that it's important to distinguish between the levy increase and the tax-rate increase, and she pointed to the city's growing tax base.

The money would go to maintenance and staffing, including rooftop HVAC units for city hall and a fire station, tasers and body cameras for police, and a plow truck. Not everyone's sold on every cut. At Monday's meeting, resident Barb Church pushed back on dropping cleanup events from two a year to one. Council members discussed keeping both with shorter hours.

  • Street bids: Range Street and North River Drive, nearly $3 million estimate
  • Deer: council approved urban removal of up to 20
  • Staffing: a part-time finance department position is in the proposal

North Mankato's budget decisions come in December

  1. Nov. 21North Mankato begins accepting bids for Range Street and North River Drive work.
  2. Dec. 7Truth in Taxation public hearing on the proposed levy.
  3. Dec. 21Final budget and levy adoption.

A Texas Roadhouse could be coming to Mankato, and the city reviews the plans today

If you've been waiting on a Texas Roadhouse here, there's movement. Minneapolis developer TOLD Development has filed plans for an 11,000-square-foot restaurant and bar at 1550 and 1560 Interlachen Drive, near Highway 14 and Victory Drive. The city's is scheduled to review them Tuesday, Nov. 3.

The proposed restaurant would cover about 11,000 square feet

Don't book a table yet. This is only the first step, and the filings don't mention a construction schedule or opening date. A developer's 2010 plans for an IHOP here never went anywhere. The chain has Minnesota locations in four Twin Cities suburbs, Rochester, Duluth and the St. Cloud area.

  • Parking: 196 spots, with two driveways off Interlachen Drive
  • Exterior: fiber cement siding, brick, shutters and a metal roof
  • Zoning: highway business, where a restaurant is a permitted use
  • Also requested: vacating an easement between the two lots

Texas Roadhouse is still growing

$5.9 billion
in combined annual sales across its three brands
48
restaurants added to its company-owned base in 2025
35
company restaurant openings expected in 2026
